Hawthorns are also known as Thorn Apples because of their 2" long thorns, were once grown as hedgerow fences.  Blooming in May, the mayflower ship was named for it.  Excellent on sandwiches, muffins, waffles, pancakes, English muffins, French toast and bagels.  Try as a flavoring for baked goods, meat sauces or blended with cream cheese or brie for a wonderful spread on crackers.
